Find your happy place outdoors. That’s the theme of National Trails Day 2010, on Sunday, June 5th. So grab your camera, a picnic lunch and water, and head for one of the many peaceful places near home or not.
Hiking does not have to involve a grueling trek on a mountain trail, or even overnight camping. It could be just a leisurely walk through a local park, such as Central Park in New York City, where there are dozens of walking trails, including around the park’s famous lake. One of my favorite hikes is anywhere there is a ski resort chairlift, such as Jackson Hole. Take the chairlift up to the top of the mountain, enjoy the scenery, and hike down, or the reverse — hike uphill, enjoy the scenery, and ride the chairlift down.
