Jackson Hole Mountain Resort is trying to break the world record for the most people skiing and riding in jeans.
But everybody gets to enjoy $25 lift tickets and performance equipment rentals for the denim competition day, Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, whether or not you are wearing jeans.
The current record was set at The Remarkables Ski Area in New Zealand earlier this yaer, with 102 total visitors on the slopes wearing denim. So Jackson Hole (JHMR) needs 103.
That shouldn’t be a problem – there are at least that many denim jeans and jackets in this western town, and at least as many cowboy boots and cowboy hats.
Yes, I love Jackson Hole and have skied there often and written about it often over the years, although I save wearing jeans for apres ski, including for two-stepping at the famous Cowboy Bar downtown.

Also, I skied The Remarkables for the first time this year, and also saved my jeans for walking Queenstown, 90 minutes from the ski/snowboard resort.
Get the $25 Jackson Hole lift ticket throughout the day on Sat., Dec. 9, whether or not you are skiing in jeans.
There’s also $25 performance equipment rentals, a discount of at least $50, plus $100 off group lessons, and live music to kick off the new ski/snowboard season and also celebrate the most famous pants in the West. Even the entire world.
- BTW – Denim jeans were created in the late 1800s by a German-Jewish immigrant, Levi Strauss, to give gold and silver miners in California, Nevada and elsewhere tough pants for their tough work, including rivets to bolster stress points at seams.
The official count for the world record will take place at Noon at the base of Sweetwater Gondola.
Participants should meet at the base of Sweetwater to be included in the official count.
Participants will scan at the Sweetwater RFID gates to be counted, and then all skiers and riders will then gather at the top of Sweetwater for a group photo to commemorate the historic moment.
