United Airlines plans to fly to 114 international cities this summer, with new destinations and increased service on popular routes between several US cities and Europe and Scandanavia, Australia, Japan, Hong Kong and the Middle East.
It’s a 25 percent increase in flights versus last year, to meet a pent-up demand for travel outside the US. International bookings reportedly already are 15 percent higher than the same period in 2022. And it’s only April.
Some routes already are underway, and others begin around Memorial Day, although tickets are on sale now.

Details of United’s New 2023 Summer Schedule
New York/Newark-Dubai, UAE:
The new route is part of a historic commercial agreement between United and Dubai’s Emirates that will enhance each airline’s network and give their customers easier access to hundreds of destinations within the United States and around the world.
MileagePlus members can earn and redeem award miles on connecting flights to nearly 75 destinations in the Emirates and flydubai networks. United is the only U.S. airline to offer non-stop flights to Dubai from the U.S.
- Emirates flies to Dubai via Milan – it’s a great option for visiting Italy. I’ve flown the route to Milan to access the nearby ski resorts in Italy and France.
New York/Newark-Malaga, Spain:
This is United’s fifth Spanish destination. There will be three flights a week, beginning on May 31. United also offers direct flights to Tenerife and Palma de Mallorca.
New York/Newark-Stockholm, Sweden:
On May 27, United returns to Stockholm for the first time since 2019, with daily service.
San Francisco-Rome, Italy:
Daily flights launch on May 25. United is the only U.S. airline to offer direct flights to Europe from its hub in San Francisco. There also are non-stops to Milan, Venice and Naples.
Chicago/O’Hare-Shannon, Ireland:
Beginning May 25, United will add more seasonal flights to Shannon, Ireland with new daily flights.
United also offers direct flights to Shannon with existing seasonal service from New York/Newark, and direct flights to Dublin from Chicago, New York/Newark and Washington Dulles.
Washington Dulles-Berlin, Germany:
United begins daily service on May 25, the only carrier offering non-stop flights between the two capital cities.
There also are existing year-round flights from New York/Newark.
Chicago/O’Hare-Barcelona, Spain:
New direct daily flights begin on May 25, bringing to 14 the number of European cities United serves from its Chicago hub.
There is also existing service to Barcelona from both New York/Newark and Washington Dulles.
More Flights to London:
United will have 23 daily flights to London Heathrow this summer, with the recent addition of a second daily flight between Los Angeles and London Heathrow.
There also are additional flights to London from New York/Newark, San Francisco, and Denver, as well as new flights from Boston.
More Flights to Paris:
United also is adding more options for travel between Washington Dulles and Paris Charles de Gaulle with a second daily flight launching June 2.
The airline also offers year-round flights to Paris from New York/Newark, Washington Dulles, Chicago and San Francisco.
Resumption of Unique Seasonal Service:
Along with adding new flights, United will fly nine trans-Atlantic routes it added last summer. These include:
- Direct flights between New York/Newark and Nice; Denver and Munich; Boston and London Heathrow; Chicago/O’Hare and Zurich; and Chicago/O’Hare and Milan,
- Flights to four destinations not served by any other North American airline, including Amman, Jordan; Azores, Portugal; Palma de Mallorca, Spain and Tenerife, Spain.
- Additional seasonal service from New York/Newark to Edinburgh, Scotland between May 25 and Oct. 27, and from New York/Newark to Naples, Italy from June 23 to Sept. 7.
New Codeshare with Virgin Australia
In addition to an expanded non-stop schedule between the USA and Australia’s three largest cities—Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane – United has launched codeshare partnership with Virgin Australia. That allows travelers to make easy connections to more than 20 additional cities within Australia.
