Lufthansa is offering you the chance to name your own price on the new Lufthansa Premium Economy Class. The bid system is for an upgrade from economy on all routes flown by a Boeing 747-8 from Frankfurt, including to Bangalore, Buenos Aires, Chicago, Hong Kong, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Beijing, São Paolo, Seoul, Tokyo-Haneda and Washington, D.C.
Here is how it works: when you book online, look for the “My Bookings” tab to see if it qualifies for myOffer, which opens the page where you can bid for an upgrade.Bids can be edited and retracted up to 72 hours before the scheduled departure of the flight. After that, the bid is binding. You’ll be notified by email 48 to 24 hours, at the latest, before the scheduled departure, to let you know whether your bid has been accepted. The credit card on file will be charged with the corresponding amount, and you receive an updated e-ticket.
If the bid is not accepted, you fly in Economy Class as planned with no additional costs.
Lufthansa is one of my favorite airlines, and not just for its exceptional customer service and food. Lufthansa is also an environmental leader, pioneering both bio-fuel flights and noise reduction technology.
Premium Economy gives you two free checked pieces of luggage weighing 51 lb each, which is twice as much luggage as in Economy Class. For an extra EUR 25 (around $30), you can add the comfort of the Lufthansa Business Lounges before departure, and meals onboard are both gourmet and served on fine chinaware.
