If you want to or need to avoid gluten when you dine out, put these FREE smartphone apps on your menu:
Dine Gluten Free – This FREE app is more than just a listing of restaurants and fast food joints. It also offers reviews by members of the gluten free community. The app is published by GlutenFreeTravelSite, launched in 2008 to give the gluten free community a place to share information about gluten free restaurants, bakeries, B&Bs and more.
These are user-submitted reviews of restaurants, bakeries, markets, hotels, resorts, and B&Bs throughout the U.S. and around the world, searchable by town or zip code, and can be mapped and shared with others. There’s also a feature that allows you to save “must try” establishments in areas you will be visiting and even get an alert on your smartphone when you are in close proximity The Dine Gluten Free app also includes a calendar listing of upcoming gluten free events, trips and expos, and a forum to share news and ask questions of others who use the app.
Gluten Free Fast Food – As its name implies, this FREE app offers information on gluten free menu choices at chains including Subway, Chipotle, McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell, Wendy’s and other popular spots for grownups and kids.
Find Me Gluten Free – This app is a blend of both Dine Gluten Free and Gluten Free Fast Food, with information on local restaurants as well as chains, plus gluten free recipes.
Gluten Free Translation Cards – If you will be traveling, or even visiting a Chinese, Vietnamese or other foreign restaurant in the USA, this free app is faster than a dictionary-style translator app. Click on the image of the national flag, and show your server the words gluten free in Swedish, Arabic, German, Portuguese, even Latvian.
There are many more gluten free smartphone apps, of course. ecoXplorer is just sharing the ones that are free.
