Travel discounts for grandparents, boomers: Aruba, Colonial Williamsburg

There’s plenty of travel deals for couples and families with children, including kids eat free, kids stay free and kids ski free, but deals for grandparents have been few and far between.

That’s especially annoying, since Grammie and Gramps often are the ones who foot the bill for multi-generation vacations.

September 9 is National Grandparents Day. To celebrate these essential family members of our families, The Westin Resort & Casino, Aruba is offering a special deal to appeal to anybody over 55, whether or not they are a grandparent. Here’s the deal — stay one night and the second night is billed equal to the year of your birth.  Stay two nights, and the third night is the birth rate. The older you are, the less you pay. Born in 1938? You pay $38 bucks. 1943? You pay $43 bucks. And so on.

Valid for two- to three-night stays only — you can’t stay for a week and pay five nights at $38 or $48. Although that would be nice. Even though Grandparents Day is right around the corner, this offer is valid for travel through December 6, 2012.  Mention promo code NBR when you make a reservation. Aruba is outside the hurricane belt, so it’s a fun-in-the-sun destination any time of year, including hurricane season.

Priceline Flights, Hotels, Rental Cars & More!

Another travel deal for boomers and seniors is this new one from Colonial Williamsburg. Anybody over age 50 — grandparent or not — receive unlimited admission to the Revolutionary City and the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg through the end of 2012. The deal is pay for one day at $39.95, and go back as often as you want for FREE.  It’s $29.95 for kids ages 6-12.  Revolutionary City programs tell the story of the 18th-century capital on the eve of the American Revolution. New exhibitions open this fall in the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg including “American Folk Portraits” opens Saturday, Sept. 29 and “Changing Keys: Keyboard Instruments for America, 1700-1830” opens Nov. 22.
