American Airlines has confirmed its Summer 2025 European schedule, introducing five new daily routes connecting major U.S. cities and popular European destinations.
Set to launch between March and July 2025, the new routes will connect travelers from cities including Chicago, Philadelphia, Charlotte, and Miami to such in-demand cities such as Athens, Edinburgh, Madrid, Milan, and Rome.
These routes will be operated using the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner and the Boeing 777-200(ER), with seating capacities of 234 and 273 passengers, respectively.
This is in addition to the new routes to Mexico and the Caribbean announced recently, which begin in November 2024.
American Airlines New Daily Summer 2025 Routes
The five new routes introduced in the Summer 2025 schedule will provide travelers with daily access to Europe’s cultural capitals and historic landmarks. Here’s a closer look at the new routes:
Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD) – Madrid Barajas Airport (MAD)
- Daily service starts: March 30, 2025
- Aircraft: Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner
This route is expected to provide travelers from the Midwest with direct access to the vibrant Spanish capital, Madrid. Known for its rich cultural history, thriving culinary scene, and iconic landmarks like the Royal Palace and Prado Museum, Madrid is a top destination for both leisure and business travelers.
Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) – Milan Malpensa Airport (MXP)
- Daily service starts: May 23, 2025
- Aircraft: Boeing 777-200(ER)
Milan, Italy’s fashion and business hub, is a key destination for luxury travelers and those in the fashion and design industries. This new route from Philadelphia offers convenient access to Milan’s historic attractions like the Duomo di Milano, the Sforza Castle, and the La Scala opera house.
Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT) – Athens International Airport (ATH)
- Daily service starts: June 5, 2025
- Aircraft: Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner
This new route connects travelers from the Charlotte area to the ancient city of Athens, home to the iconic Acropolis, the Parthenon, and a dozens of other ancient sites. Athens continues to be a sought-after destination for travelers looking to explore Greece’s rich history and stunning islands.
Miami International Airport (MIA) – Rome Fiumicino Airport (FCO)
- Daily service starts: July 5, 2025
- Aircraft: Boeing 777-200(ER)
The route will allow travelers from South Florida to visit attractions like the Colosseum, the Vatican, and the Trevi Fountain, making it easier to explore Italy’s stunning capital.
Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) – Edinburgh Airport (EDI)
- Daily service starts: May 23, 2025
- Aircraft: Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner
The Scottish capital, Edinburgh, famous for its medieval architecture, historic sites like Edinburgh Castle, and its annual festivals, including the Edinburgh Festival Fringe. Travelers looking for a mix of history, culture, and scenic landscapes will appreciate this new connection.
It’s also an ideal starting point for following The Whisky Trail, to visit some of the distilleries which produce what is arguably Scotland’s most famous product.
Expanded Currently Popular 2024 Routes
In addition to these new routes, American Airlines will continue operating several routes introduced in Summer 2024 due to their high demand and popularity.
These routes will include flights to Copenhagen (CPH), Naples (NAP), and Nice (NCE).
The decision to continue these services highlights the strong interest from travelers in visiting some of Europe’s most picturesque and culturally rich cities. These include –
Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) – Barcelona Airport (BCN)
- Daily service begins March 30, 2025, offering a convenient option for travelers looking to visit the Catalan capital known for its unique architecture, including Gaudi’s Sagrada Familia and Park Güell.
Miami International Airport (MIA) – Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport (CDG):
- Daily service to Paris will be extended into Summer 2025, providing passengers from Miami more opportunities to visit the City of Light and its famed attractions like the Eiffel Tower and Louvre Museum.
Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) – Athens International Airport (ATH):
- Daily flights will start earlier in the season on March 30, 2025, making Athens accessible to passengers flying from Philadelphia. The early start to the season will provide more opportunities to explore the Greek islands and ancient sites during peak travel periods.
Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) – Naples International Airport (NAP):
- Daily service to Naples will begin on May 5, 2025, direct flights to this historic Italian city, a gateway to the Amalfi Coast and Pompeii.
