When you buy or lease a new vehicle, it’s not just about the monthly payments.
The vehicle’s safety rating should be at the top of your list, since that impacts more than just safety – including insurance costs and resale value.
Here are the top-rated 2022 vehicles for safety, according to NHTSA, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
“NHTSA’s rigorous testing system enables people to make informed safety decisions when it comes to purchasing a vehicle,” said Dr. Steven Cliff, NHTSA’s Acting Administrator. “With nine electric vehicle models on this year’s testing list, NHTSA will be able to provide even more safety information about the vehicles in demand.”
NHTSA crash tests new vehicles and rates them on how well they protect occupants in frontal, side, and rollover crashes. Results from these tests are compiled into a rating of 1 to 5 stars, with 5 stars being the highest rating.
Vehicle safety ratings are displayed on the Monroney label, or window sticker, of new cars, and manufacturers routinely use them in their advertising.
In alphabetical order, since that’s the only fair way, these are the 2022 vehicles which achieved a five-star safety rating, and also the models top-rated for driver assistance technology such as blind spot and lane change warnings
