Holland America Line has just announced a two-year partnership with O, The Oprah Magazine, including a special cruise to Alaska this summer with Oprah and Gayle King on board, and a contest to win a spot on the cruise.
ecoXplorer Evelyn Kanter attended the news conference at Hearst Magazine headquarters in NYC – Hearst publishes the Oprah magazine – that included Orlando Ashford, the president of Holland America Line, Oprah magazine publisher Lucy Kaylin, and Oprah BFF Gayle King, the CBS News correspondent and editor-at-large of the magazine.
All three execs agreed that the demographics of their two respective customers overlap, especially where it applies to those of us who believe that travel is about learning and engaging, not just an itinerary.
Holland America will be branding Oprah events and activities throughout its ships, including an onb0ard Oprah book club, tai chi and meditation classes, and Oprah-inspired travel fashions. And, of course, there will be copies of the Oprah magazine in all staterooms.
If you are interested in sailing with Oprah herself to Alaska on the Eurodam this summer, you’d better sign up now, and expect to pay more than for other Holland America cruises to Alaska.
In response to my question, Ashford admitted the Oprah cruise will have a “premium” price, but what that will be wasn’t announced.
The Oprah cruise will include a photo shoot for a magazine cover, and other surprises.
The Oprah cruise is July 15-22, 2017.
Oprah will be aboard two nights, not the entire cruise. It was not clear whether Gayle King would be aboard for the entire cruise, or just part of it.
There will be three winners to the contest for the chance to join Oprah and Gayle on the inaugural cruise. Contest details are being announced soon.
