most common tax mistakes

If your budget is bleeding from your IRS 1040, take some of the pain out of your 2015 tax bite by booking one of these tax day travel deals, for travel now or later this year, including deals that wipe away local room taxes.

Kimpton Hotels, which operates Kimpton, Palomar and Monaco brands, among others, has different deals for their hotels in different cities:

The four Kimpton Chicago locations are charging $10.40 for perks valued at $20, such as 2pm checkout, a bottle of wine or Prosecco, $20 off parking, or a free appetizer and cocktail at the bar.

Kimpton Grand Hotel Minneapolis is upgrading any stay during April to include a $25 restaurant credit and no room tax. Available  Thursday through Sunday.

The deal at Monaco Pittsburgh is called Relax After You Tax Sale, and eliminates city and state taxes. Book by April 19 and stay by June 30 to get the deal.

Deals at Kimpton’s Palomar (Philadelphia location only) and Monaco Philadelphia hotels include a three-night stay in a suite, a couple’s massage, an unspecified “amenity from the chef”, and a bottle of sparkling wine. The package is priced at $1,040 with the rate code TAXDAY, for stays between April 15 and 25 at either Philadelphia hotel.

The Marriott collection of brands wants us consumers to “make the most of their tax return dollars”. Ten of their  Washington, D.C., hotels, including such as its JW Marriott, Autograph Collection, Renaissance, Marriott, Courtyard and Residence Inn properties, are offering a sliding scale of discounts for stays between May 6th and Sept. 5th.  The longer you stay, the larger the discount. Book three nights, save 15%; stay four and save 20%.  Use promo code SPU.

Grand Lucayan Bahama This offering a Tax Season Relief Sale of up to half-off for stays of at least three nights, if you book before April 30 for stays between Sept. 2nd and Nov. 15th. Rates start at $95 per room per night.  Use rate code RTTAX16 when booking. The deal includes a $100 resort credit per room.
