Help Japan Earthquake, Tsunami Victims with your Phone

Text a charity donation to help Japan earthquake, tsunami victims. Photo courtesy CNBC

The photos and video from Japan of the devastating earthquake and tsunamis, and their aftermath, are both riveting and heart-stopping.  The massive humanitarian aid campaign already is underway, and you can help.  Use your phone to text in a$10 donation to a legitimate, experienced  charity.  Most service providers do not charge for texting donations to major charities.  Your $10 donation will appear on your next bill.

  • Save the Children Federation —Text “JAPAN” or “TSUNAMI” to 20222 to donate $10
  • American Red Cross —Text “REDCROSS” to 90999 to donate $10.  You can also donate $10 or more on the secure Red Cross website
  • Salvation Army —Text “JAPAN” to 80888 to donate $10
  • World Vision –Text “4JAPAN” or “4TSUNAMI” to 20222 to donate $10
  • Mercy Corps —Text “MERCY” to 25283 to donate $10
  • Assist International Medical Corps — Text “MED” to 80888 to donate $10

In Canada:

  • Text “ASIA” or “ASIE“ to 30333 to donate $5 to The Canadian Red Cross Society
  • Text “QUAKE” to 45678 to donate $10 to The Salvation Army in Canada
  • Text “GIVE” to 45678 to donate $5 to UNICEF

According to Crain’s New York Business, sext donations played an important fund-raising role following last year’s earthquake in Haiti, helping raise millions.

Make you donation count.  Be sure to give only to legitimate charities.  Please read my article on Yahoo: Tips to Avoid Charity Scams and Frauds
