An important part of any car buying decision should be how much that vehicle is worth when you trade it in. So what’s the best overall brand for resale value? Subaru. That’s what the car experts at KBB.com say.
Subaru won the 2011 KBB best residual value award at the Los Angeles Auto Show, beating out such ‘usual suspects’ as Honda, Toyota, Lexus, Mercerdes and Honda. BMW received the award for best resale value of a luxury band.
The Subaru award is not a surprise to its dedicated fans. For many, Subaru is synonymous with all-wheel drive. A smaller group knows the automaker with rally racing and performance, including the highly rated WRX performance sedan. Now, Subaru can boast about its resale value, as well. The experts at KBB say a styling renaissance is putting Subaru on the radar of more shoppers, who are discovering cars and crossovers that are just plain nicer and better-built than they’ve long thought. Plus, you get the famous symmetrical all-wheel drive so important wherever the weather is wet and/or snowy.
BMW was awarded the title of best resale value in a luxury brand, because itscars and crossovers appeal to used-car buyers for the same reasons they appeal to new buyers: performance, style and luxury. Performance purists will talk of driving feel and its legendary inline-six engines. And more than a few buyers want a BMW simply because it’s a BMW. Where it all comes together for excellent resale value is the fact that a used BMW is just as fun, fashionable, comfortable and prestigious as a new one.
