Domino’s EV Pizza Delivery Fleet

Domino’s Pizza isn’t just the world’s largest pizza company.  It also is the largest electric vehicle pizza delivery fleet operator in the country, with more than 800 Chevrolet Bolt EVs now, and 1,100 planned by the end of 2023.

The EV delivery vehicles are  2023 Chevy Bolts custom-painted to be rolling advertisements.  They are in use at select locations, which are a combination of franchises and corporate-owned stores.

Electric vehicles provide several advantages for Domino’s stores, including ample battery life with the potential to have days of deliveries, zero tailpipe emissions, advanced safety features and lower average maintenance costs than nonelectric vehicles.

The Bolt has an estimated 259 miles of battery power between charging.  That’s more than enough for a day or more of local pizza deliveries, and the vehicle can be re-charged easily overnight.

Domino’s is partnering with Enterprise Fleet Management, for local hands-on account management, vehicle acquisition, financing, telematics solutions and maintenance for the electric delivery fleet.

It makes Domino’s one of the largest buyers of the Bolt, the most affordable EV on the market right now.

Another major buyer is Hertz, which plans to purchase 175,000 EVs from General Motors by the end of the decade, including the Bolt and models from Cadillac and other GM brands.

If either Domino’s or Hertz wants more Bolt EVs after the 2023 model year, they’ll be out of luck.

GM announced recently it is ending production of the Bolt in favor of larger and more profitable EVs.

Executive Statements

“Back in November 2022, Domino’s announced that we’d have 800 EVs on the road by the end of 2023 and we’re excited to say that we’ve officially reached that number,” said Joe Jordan, Domino’s president of U.S. and global services said in a press release.

“All 800 vehicles are on the road, delivering at various stores across the country. We are even more thrilled to announce that number is growing. Our stores and franchisees have continued to express their enthusiasm and interest around EVs, and they’ve ordered an additional 300-plus cars to be on the road by the end of the year.”

“We’re continuing to see a wide range of advantages from using EVs,” said Jordan. “In addition to business and environmental benefits, an electric delivery fleet also helps with hiring drivers, as they open up a whole new pool of job candidates who may not have their own vehicles.”
