Subway Launches an EV Charging Network

Charge your EV while you grab a sandwich.  Restaurant brand Subway is partnering with a top EV charging system to provide hundreds of locations, so you can fill your battery while you fill your stomach.

These are no ordinary charging kiosks. The design offers shaded canopies with multiple ports, picnic tables, Wi-Fi, restrooms, green space and even playgrounds.  It is being rolled out at new or newly remodeled Subway locations.

The charging partnership is with GenZ EV Solutions and its charging network RED E Charge.

Subway is calling the design Subway Oasis.

EV Etiquette for Re-Charging

There also will be special dedicated Subway promotions available only while using the EV charging stations.

There already are EV chargers in shopping malls, hotels and stand-alone restaurants, but this is the first I know of that includes full-service rest facilities and discount deals for food.

Subway is marketing this as “designed to offer added convenience for on-the-go guests, while doing good for the planet and generating incremental revenue for franchisees”, according to a press release we received.

As drivers increasingly shift to electric vehicles, the restaurant chain is well positioned to offer a quick, reliable charge to EV motorists and contribute to a national network of charging stations – adding to the critical infrastructure that makes EVs more reliable.

Unfortunately, the information from Subway and GenZ EV Solutions do not identify where these Subway Oasis locations will be.

Also unfortunately, there is no information whether these will be Level 2 or Level 3 fast chargers, or a combination.

Stay tuned.
