Alaska Airlines drops baggage fees

how to avoid baggage charges

Travel deal: Alaska Airlines is dropping its $25 checked baggage fee. But only for the month of January 2015, and only for members of the Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan.

If you are traveling in January and not a member, sign up FREE before your trip, and check one bag FREE.

Alaska Airlines flies to cities in more than a dozen US states, as well as to destinations in Canada and Mexico.  It’s also a member of the oneworld alliance of airlines including American, Delta, British, Emirates, Cathay Pacific and KLM.

That means you can fly from Denver to Dubai, or from Albuquerque to Amsterdam, on a seamless codeshare ticket.

The baggage freebie comes as airlines rake in billions of dollars in fees for checked baggage, early boarding and ticket changes. Even JetBlue, famous for letting your first bag fly free, will be adding checked baggage fees and reducing legroom in 2015.

A recent article in The New Yorker says it will get worse, including deteriorating levels of service and comfort, to make us pay more for a comfortable seat, overhead bin space and more.worse service
