A few years ago, en route to skiing in Chamonix from the Milan Airport, my group was delayed several hours because of weather-related issues impacting the Mont Blanc Tunnel – flooding – so I cannot imagine what more than three months of closure will cause.
The closure will force travelers to take alternative routes, potentially leading to longer travel times and increased congestion on other roads.
For businesses, particularly those involved in logistics and transportation, the closure represents a significant challenge.
The Mont Blanc Tunnel is a vital artery for the movement of goods between France and Italy, and its closure could lead to delays, increased transportation costs, and disruptions to supply chains.
Local businesses in the Chamonix and Courmayeur regions, which rely heavily on tourism, may also face a decline in visitors during the closure period.
Alternative routes include the Fréjus Tunnel, which connects France and Italy via Modane in France and Bardonecchia in Italy.
