The world’s largest tax-free shopping complex has just opened in the city of Sanya in south China’s Hainan Province, which the Chinese government is promoting heavily as an international tourism destination.
The Haitang Bay International Shopping Complex is a three-story building housing more than 300 international luxury brands plus restaurants and entertainment venues.
Hainan Province is the island of Hainan, with its own airport. When you are not shopping or eating at the duty free mall, enjoy the beaches, hot springs and coconut trees.
Another must-see is Monkey Island, the world’s only nature reserve for macaque monkeys. It’s a state-protected eco-reserve with more than 400 kinds of plants and fruits, and home to more than 2,500 monkeys of 21 speciies, including some endangered ones.
Monkey Island also features the longest over-water cable car in China, more than one-mile long.
The Chinese government has been endorsing international tourism in Hainan by issuing duty-free policies, tax refunds after departure, and visa exemptions for tourists from 26 countries and regions.
