The Bridgestone Teens Drive Smart Driving Experience is a FREE, half-day workshop that puts teens behind the wheel of a brand new BMW, to help them learn safe and smart driving habits. If you are lucky enough to be in one of the cities where this program is being held, sign up now, especially if there’s a young teen and new driver in your life.
The program is designed to teach new drivers and inexperienced the skills needed to better handle accident avoidance situations and eliminate distracted driving behaviors. The instructors are all highly trained pros with motorsports backgrounds and test track experience, like the pros who taught me snow driving and ice driving safety techniques last winter at the Bridgestone Winter Driving School in Steamboat Springs, Colorado.
Each session includes classroom instruction that reinforces smart decision making on the road, plus driving exercises on a protected closed course, where teens learn potentially life-saving maneuvers and the life-threatening dangers of multitasking behind the wheel. Multitasking, of course, includes texting while driving, even fiddling with the entertainment system while driving.

The Bridgestone Teens Drive Smart Driving Experience is being held in nine cities between June and November 2013. Click here for the schedule, and sign up. It’s free, and there are no sales pitches for Bridgestone Tires or BMW cars. Just the sales pitch for teen smart driving practices. And if you don’t live in one of the nine cities, you could turn it into a family weekend getaway.
As an automotive journalist, I’ve been lucky to participate in several driving school programs, and have learned something each time, including one evasive maneuver I’m sure saved me from a terrible accident some years ago.
