The Force has been with Volkswagen ever since it introduced the appealing 2011 TV commercial The Force. It’s just been voted one of the ten best auto commercials in the last 25 years.
You know the commercial. It’s the one with the little boy dressed as Darth Vader, and when he points his hands at daddy’s VW Passat in the driveway, the headlights blink and the young man is surprised by his forceful power. I can’t tell you how many people have seen “The Force,” on TV, but the clip on YouTube has been viewed more than 55 milion times. Including a couple of times by me, because it’s an absolutely delightful commercial.
The award was made at the all-important North American Intenational Auto Show in Detroit, by The One Club, a non-profit organization devoted to improving the advertising industry. The panel of judges is made up of more than 70 top advertising executives and automotive journalist.
It also doesn’t hurt that the commercial is for one of the best cars on the planet, the VW Passat, produced in the world’s first LEED certified green manufacturing plant, in Chattanooga. Click here to read my ecoXplorer article.
