Gas prices and airline tickets are not wallet friendly these days. But don’t despair, there are plenty of budget travel deals and bargains — if you know where to look.
Southeast Asia — Save $1,00o or more on a 12-day tour of Thailand, Cambodia and Vietnam with this deal from Pacific Delight Tours. The $1,899 price includes airfare within Asia, plus hotels and tours in each of the cities on the tour. That includes the fabled temples of Angkor Wat in Cambodia and the Chu Chi Tunnels in Ho Chi Minh city, which was known as Saigon when the tunnels were used. The tour includes three nights in Bangkok, one of my favorite cities in the world, so there’s plenty of time to explore the temple of the Golden Buddha and the Royal Palace, and get one of those fabulous Thai massages. My recent foot massage ranks as the best $12 I ever spent.
Summer of Pride discounts — Through Labor Day, stay at any Kimpton or Monaco hotel in the United State and get 15% off the best available rate, a $25 discount to any hotel restaurant, and a welcome package themed specifically to LGBT travel. I’ve stayed in several Kimpton owned properties, including one of my favorites, the Hotel Triton in San Francisco, and had wonderful experiences each time. I also like Kimpton for being one of the leaders in the green hotel movement. The Kimpton Hotel Salomar in San Diego is one of the top green hotels in the USA. Read my article here.
Free night at 4,900 hotels worldwide — Earn one free night at any of 1,500 hotels managed by Choice Hotels after two separate stays before Labor Day. Choice Hotels include Comfort Inn, Comfort Suites, Quality, Sleep Inn, Clarion, Cambria Suites, MainStay Suites, Suburban Extended Stay Hotel, Econo Lodge, Rodeway Inn and Ascend Collection. You need to be a member of the company’s frequent visitor program, Choice Priveleges, but that’s free to join.
Discount coupons from Red Roof Inns — Through September 30th, guests at Red Roof Inns receive discount coupons at check-in for up to 20% off rental cars, shopping and restaurants, including from Avis, iHop, Subway, and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Red Roof has more than 300 hotels and motels in the United States.
Disney World — The “2011 Magic Your Way Package” includes overnight accommodations at a Disney Resort, base ticket, giving each person entry to one Disney theme park every day and dining options (one table-service meal, one quick-service meal and one snack per person, per night) plus discounts on other Disney attractions. Rates for four-day/three-night stay start at $1,809.
